Youth Community Service
"You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." -- Matthew 5:14-16
In any other means of church ministries and youth ministry effort, Christ-like service is one of the most powerful ways to show youth the Gospel in action. Taking part in a Christ-like effort to help others can be a life-changing event. It enables the youth to experience what it means to help people not because they want to be “nice,” or because they expect to “get something back in return,” but because of a genuine connection they feel to them as God’s children.
Community Service is a form of activity where the youths will voluntarily offer their services for free. They could clean the streets, or help fix a house, offer meals to tricycle drivers and the needy, or any form of help that they can give to the community.
This would help the youth understand the importance of service. Service that you don’t expect anything in return. This would also help the youth realize that it feels good to do good to the people. It is also mentally and physically healthy as your help will be well-appreciated and recognized. And, of course, the service can also affect other people’s lives and preach the Gospel through good works and deeds.
